Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), established on July 1, 1958, through the enactment of the Nepal Airlines Corporation Act, 2019, was primarily formed to provide essential air transport services for individuals, agencies, and organizations. It aims to facilitate the movement of people and cargo between airports both domestically and internationally.

Profile of Aircraft Used in NAC Services

• Douglas DC-3 Dakota: The 28-seater Dakota was NAC's inaugural aircraft, becoming a significant symbol in Nepal's aviation history. This aircraft was often the first interaction many communities had with modern transportation long before the introduction of automobiles. Its last flight occurred in 1973.
• Fong Shu Harvester AN-2: Introduced to the fleet in 1963, this 12-seater aircraft served briefly in domestic routes until 1965. NAC operated two units of this Chinese plane.
• Pilatus Porter PC-6: Entering service in 1961, this Swiss-manufactured single-engine aircraft accommodated six passengers. Notable for its STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) capabilities, it excelled in Nepal's rugged mountainous environment until its retirement in 1998.
• Fokker Friendship F-27: Serving from 1966 to 1970, this turboprop aircraft carried up to 44 passengers and operated international routes, elevating the prestige of air travel during its time.
• Hawker Siddeley HS-748 Avro: NAC welcomed its first Avro in 1970. With a capacity of 44 seats, these planes were pivotal for both domestic and international flights, notably facilitating the popular Mountain Flight sightseeing excursions.
• Twin Otter DHC-6: Introduced in 1971, this Canadian aircraft, accommodating 19 passengers, significantly transformed Nepal's aviation landscape by allowing access to remote mountain areas and rough airstrips.
• Boeing 727: In 1972, NAC proudly added its first jet carrier, the Boeing 727. This aircraft could hold 123 passengers and connected Kathmandu with various regional hubs until its retirement in 1993.
• Boeing 757: The arrival of two Boeing 757s in 1987 marked NAC’s foray into long-haul routes, effectively enhancing Nepal's profile on the global aviation stage with a seating capacity of 190 passengers.
• Modern Ark 60 (MA60): This turbo-prop powered aircraft debuted in April 2014 as a reliable option for domestic trunk routes with a seating arrangement for 56 passengers.
• Y12E: A twin-engine turboprop equipped with STOL capabilities arrived from China in November 2014. With a capacity for 17 passengers, it offers similar performance as the Twin Otter DHC-6-300.
• Airbus A320: The Airbus A320-200, recognized as one of the most awarded aircraft in Nepalese aviation history, landed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in February 2015 with a configuration of 158 seats (8 business class and 150 economy class).
• Airbus A330-200: Currently, NAC operates two Airbus A330-200 aircraft named Annapurna (9N ALY) and Makalu (9N ALZ). Each is designed to accommodate a total of 274 passengers, divided into 256 economy class and 18 business class seats.
